About the Czech vignette
The Czech vignette is a time-based motorway charge for motor vehicles with at least four wheels and a maximum permissible weight of up to 3.5 tonnes. It has to be in place before you enter a tolled motorway section.
Since 1 January 2021 the vignette has been fully electronic: there is no windscreen sticker, and the right to use the motorways is recorded against the vehicle's license plate and country of registration. The system is run by the Czech State Fund for Transport Infrastructure (Státní fond dopravní infrastruktury, SFDI).
Four periods are available — 1 day, 10 days, 30 days and 1 year — and the fee depends on how the vehicle is powered: petrol, diesel and LPG vehicles pay the full rate, while natural gas, biomethane and low-emission plug-in hybrid vehicles pay a reduced rate. Using a tolled section without a valid vignette may result in a fine of up to CZK 20,000.
Vignette validity — 1 day, 10 days, 30 days or 1 year
Every Czech vignette runs from the start date you choose until 23:59 on its last day. None of them is tied to the calendar year.
- Covers every tolled motorway section for the whole period — drive in and out of the country as often as you like.
- A vignette starting today becomes valid once it has been registered in the toll system, never retroactively. A vignette with a later start date is valid from 00:00 on that day.
- Start and end times are counted in Czech local time (CET/CEST).
Who needs a vignette — and which option to choose
A vignette is required for every motor vehicle with at least four wheels and a maximum permissible weight of up to 3.5 tonnes — cars, vans and motorhomes alike. The rate depends on how the vehicle is powered, so choose the option that matches your vehicle documents:
Motorcycles and trailers do not need a vignette, and the weight of a trailer is not added to that of the towing vehicle. For a vehicle registered outside the Czech Republic the driver is responsible for choosing the correct rate, and entitlement to a reduced rate is checked at roadside inspections — keep the registration certificate with you.

Frequently asked questions
What exactly is the Czech e-vignette?
The Czech e-vignette is an electronic record showing that the time-based motorway charge has been paid for your vehicle. There is no sticker: the vignette is stored in the national toll system against your license plate and country of registration, and checks are made by reading the plate, so nothing needs to be visible inside the car.
Is it compulsory to have one on Czech motorways?
Yes — every motor vehicle with at least four wheels and a maximum permissible weight of up to 3.5 tonnes needs a valid vignette before entering a tolled motorway section. Motorcycles and trailers do not need one. Fully electric and hydrogen vehicles are exempt, but if they are registered outside the Czech Republic the exemption has to be notified to SFDI beforehand.
How does the digital registration work?
After you complete your order, we register the license plate, country and start date you entered in the Czech toll system. Standard processing takes up to 12 hours; with Express it takes from 1 minute to 2 hours. The order confirmation arrives by e-mail within minutes and the vignette confirmation follows once the vignette is registered — there's nothing to print or display.
How long does a vignette stay valid?
That depends on the period you choose: 1 day, 10 days, 30 days or 1 year. The start day counts as the first day and validity always ends at 23:59 on the last day — a 10-day vignette starting on 1 April runs through 10 April, and a 1-year vignette starting on 1 May 2026 runs through 30 April 2027. A 1-day vignette covers only the calendar day you select.
Which vehicle option should I choose?
Go by how your vehicle is powered, as shown in its documents. Petrol, diesel and LPG vehicles need the standard vignette, as do hybrids that are not plug-in hybrids. The reduced rates are for vehicles powered by natural gas (CNG or LNG), vehicles powered by biomethane, and plug-in hybrids with CO2 emissions of up to 50 g/km. Fully electric and hydrogen vehicles do not need a vignette at all.
What if I get stopped without a valid vignette?
The Czech police and the customs administration check license plates with camera-equipped patrol cars, at control gates and at rest areas. Driving on a tolled section without a valid vignette can cost you a fine of up to CZK 20,000.
Can I get a refund if I change my mind?
Refunds are possible only before the vignette has been registered in the toll system, or if an order failed due to a technical fault on our side — once registered and active, a vignette cannot be cancelled or refunded, in line with the rules of the Czech toll authority. As an EU consumer you can withdraw from our service within 14 days, but only until the service has been fully performed. Details such as the license plate or start date can be corrected only before the vignette's validity starts, so contact support@vignetteexpress.com as soon as possible; approved refunds are returned to your original payment method within 14 days.
Can I move a vignette to a different car?
No — a vignette is tied to the license plate and country of registration it was issued for and cannot be transferred, even if you sell the vehicle. If you change cars, you'll need to buy a new vignette for the new registration.
